French Toast with warm maple syrup

Good Morning! French toast makes me think of Summer visits to Nana’s house in Washington D.C. I would wake up and she would be in the kitchen making French toast, and then we would explore the City’s historic sites together.

Enough about me, more about French toast! French toast can even make Tax Day more bearable. A miracle if ever there was one! This is made with this old fashioned raisin bread!

Cinnamon Raisin French Toast

This Cinnamon Raisin French Toast is make with cinnamonraisin bread and is soaked in a cinnamon custard. A little spice, some sweetnessfrom the raisins and all the maple syrup! Breakfast is served.
Prep: 5 minutes
Cook: 20 minutes
Total: 25 minutes
Servings: 2 people

Ingredients

  • 4 slices raisin bread or any bread, sliced ½ inch thick
  • 1 egg
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  • Beat the eggs, add the milk, salt and spices. Dip slices of bread into the mixture, soaking each side.
  • Sauté in a little oil or butter if you are feeling decadent. Cook until both sides are a golden brown and the center is cooked to your liking. Serve hot with maple syrup or powdered sugar.

Notes

I reduced the salt by half and added the cinnamon and nutmeg. Nana (and my Mother) ALWAYS added cinnamon and nutmeg, and without them, French Toast seems bland.
